The Sling School Peer Supporter Course has been designed to be a practical, hands-on course to give people working with parents a thorough grounding in the main safety and physiology considerations of carrying, along with a full-day experience of working with the main types of carriers which will leave you inspired to put it into action. The course includes an online safety and physiology module (to be completed in advance) which includes: basic maternal and infant physiology and how that relates to carrying; when not to use slings and the laws surrounding when carrying is not ok; how to assess a carrier for safety; optimal positioning in a carrier; and infant safety when carrying.
The majority of the day involves hands-on experience, looking at the main types of carriers and working with you to become confident in supporting parents using them, including troubleshooting, variations, tips and tricks. We challenge pre-conceptions by looking at a range of situations and doing group work to decide how best to help that parent and whether it is something a peer supporter could work with or if it’d be better referred on to a consultant. Please note, as this is a peer supporter course, we will not be covering any back carries.
The course is fully supported by in-depth tutorial videos which you will have access to after the course, a facebook group which you can come to for support, and upon completion, you will be able to get insurance as a Sling School Ltd peer supporter.
The peer supporter course would suit people who are involved in (or wish to become involved in) running sling library sessions or meets, enthusiastic sling users who wish to spend a day following their passion, antenatal/postnatal teachers, nurseries and childcare settings.
The cost of the course is £80 per attendee and includes a complimentary newborn stretchy wrap.
Lancaster courses run at Busy Bees, Ovangle Road, Lancaster, LA1 5JR. Check here for any up-and-coming courses.
If you wish us to travel to you, then you need to arrange a group of minimum 5 people. Course fees will cover the first £50 of room hire, but you will be responsible for any fee above that. Travel costs to be divided between course attendees. Snacks and drinks will be provided for you during the day, but you will need to bring your own lunch. Babes in arms are welcome.
